The UT Tower. Rising 307 feet above the city of Austin is the main building of the University of Texas, known as the Tower. Built in the 1930's to replace the original main building, the Tower is an important feature of the university to this day, but the true spectacle of the Tower is noticeable at night. The Tower glows with white light on most evenings, but on special occasions colored lights illuminate the structure to symbolize specific and significant events, such as orange for a Longhorn victory. Atop the Tower is an observation deck, open to the public, which offers panoramic views of the city and beyond.
