Planning a Trip to Texas Hill Country

A Texas Oasis. Rolling hills, vast lakes, flowing rivers and beautiful wildflowers make Texas Hill Country a beautiful place to visit. Numerous recreational areas and activities can be found along the many lakes, such as Travis, LBJ, Buchanon, and Canyon Lake, as well as the Colorado River as it winds through from Austin. For the intrepid explorer, the numerous caves and caverns  that dot the hills, notably Inner Space Caverns and Natural Bridge Caverns, provide both adventure and education.

Inner Space Adventure. The Inner Space Caverns and the Natural Bridges Caverns are the most popular tourist destinations among the many caves and caverns of Texas Hill Country. Inner Space Caverns, discovered in 1963 in Georgetown, are estimated to be between 90-100 million years old, and remains of sabre tooth tigers and mammoths have been discovered over the years. Natural Bridge Caverns, discovered in 1960 in New Braunfels, is a US natural landmark, known for its unique geological structures still evolving today. Tours of both are open to the public. Small Town Charm. Unique charms await in the many cities that make up Texas Hill Country, each with a diverse cultural makeup of its own. New Braunfels is home to Natural Bridge Caverns and the Schlitterbahn Waterpark, as well as a sizeable German-American population who  celebrate the city's German heritage with the Wurstfest, a traditional German celebration, each November.
